Supportive care for the cancer patient & family

Janet Burns, R.N., is the supportive care nurse at the Beaumont Cancer Center in Royal Oak. She provides free consultations with patients and families requiring additional help when a disease begins to decrease their quality of life. She helps by providing education regarding cancer, community resources, stress management, and ways of improving communication of needs and concerns to others.

Who may benefit from an appointment?

Those who:

•are newly diagnosed or have a recurrence of cancer

•need educational and community resource information

•need help adjusting to their illness

•are anxious and/or need additional time for instruction

•are having difficulty with treatment decisions

•are struggling with pain, fatigue and/or multi-symptom management

•need help with care-giving issues and assistance with problem-solving
